she%26#039;s on morphine 2mg/hr.i was wondering why her mind seems to be going so fast, could it be nutrition she hardly eats and no electrolites or is it the cancer or the dying process or what I want her MIND back before she goes please help|||Its the amount of morphine. I promise you though, from very personal first hand experience (you can look through my previous stuff to get the details) that on some level, she knows EVERYTHING that is going on around her. I bet on some level she responds to you when you talk to her or touch her. It may be small, but she will respond. If there are still brain waves, she knows. If you want her mind back, you would need to stop the morphine and look at other pain meds such as thc. And ultimatly it may not be that she is in that much pain now, but she will be when she dies. SHe will ultimatly die from drug overdose from the morphine (the toxicity build up.. drug od or kindey/liver failure) or cardiac arrest or suffocation because the narcotics have depressed the nervous system so much that the heart stops and/or her lungs stop.
HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT. What has your sister expressed about end of life issues? What she wants is most important and if this is the care she has expressed wanting, then you have no right messing with it.|||Hi, I%26#039;m sorry that%26#039;s happening to you and your sister.
I%26#039;m not sure but I was on morphine once for pain, only for one day and I remember that people were talking to me but I couldn%26#039;t really focus on what they were saying, I just kept wanting to look out the window. So it might just be the drugs.|||i%26#039;m so sorry to hear of your sister. i don%26#039;t think anyone in yahoo could answer your questions - she may be leaving - question her doctors. they won%26#039;t know everything, but may be able to help with her consciousness. the problem may be the pain they don%26#039;t want her ( and you don%26#039;t want her) to have. all you may be able to do is let your sister know by touching her is that you are there and you love her. it%26#039;s a basic need that she may feel in spite of the medications. we can hope, this happened with my mother. i hope for you both.|||Both the disease process and the morphine are doing this. She can hear you, though she may not be able to respond.
