Treating prostate cancer will absolutely make you impotent, sterile, and increase the chances of being incontinent. Surgery is on the top of the list for these side effects, radiation or seeds also cause these side effects but sometimes to a lesser effect.
A prostate that has a lot of cancer may cause urination problems, and occasional problems with erections, but the real problems happen after treatment.
I had surgery with unilateral nerve sparing (spared the nerve on the side that did not have any cancer). Recovery from impotence included experimenting with a lot of methods and medications, but ultimately I had 100% success with a pump (medically prescribed vacuum device) and a very small dose of muse. The same combination is used a lot by diabetics who have severe impotence issues. It is a very effective combination to allow a person with impotence problems to continue to be sexually active.
Impotence should not be the deciding factor in delaying treatment of prostate cancer or ignoring treatment. There are treatments for impotance, but not for death.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Verry sorry to hear of your friends battle with prostate cancer.
The pump was highly recommended because it is natural and keeps the muscles from deteriorating. The pumps from the sex shop dont work. It must be in the class of medically prescribed such as the Osbon Ericaid which retails for over $500 but covered by most insurances if properly reported on a claim. The dose of muse I used was the smallest dose they make to minimize side effects of pain. It was such a small dose that it was ineffective by itself, but when combined with the pump, was effective. The use of baby oil for lubrication helps prevent irritation and burning when using muse. I can only say what worked in my case. Every person reacts differently to various treatments for impotance.
