My father, 50 years old, has a 6.1 PSA and wants to know whether it%26#039;s risky at the moment. What can he do to stop that number from increasing?|||I would say it is the watchful range. I would suggest getting another PSA done in 30-45 days to see if there is any change.
They say eating a low fat diet, mainly eliminating dairy products is good. Taking Vitamin D3 has been found to help prostate cancer %26amp; the supplement Saw Palmetto can help shrink the prostate gland. The only other thing I can add is if possible to try %26amp; buy hormone free milk (Horizon is a good brand) %26amp; hormone free eggs( Eggland Best are good). Prostate Cancer is a hormone driven cancer(Testosterone) %26amp; the more hormonal influences he can cut out of his diet, the better off he will be. Meat also has alot of hormones injected into it by the cattle farmers, if possible grass fed, hormone-free meat is best to eat for the least side effects.Hope this helps! Good luck!|||Nothing can stop the PSA rising.
For a 50 year old, that is fine
He has a normal PSA.
PSA does not equal prostate cancer… it is simply indicative.
Prostate cancer has a very high survival rate. In med school, we learnt that 80% of people with the cancer will survive a further 15 years without treatment. It is the least lethal cancer we know.|||follow up with is Dr on a regular basis. Moderate risk for cancer|||It could be prostate cancer, but statistically it is more likely to be infection. Check out www.drmirkin.com for lots of information the subject, including the following two information sheets.

www.drmirkin.com/men/M155.htm|||That is a high level for a 50 year old. That DOES NOT mean he has prostate cancer, but it is a warning sign. Please tell your dad to see his doctor as soon as possible for further testing. This is not something to wait and see on. The earlier you can catch any problem the more likely you are to be able to resolve it. My father and uncle both have prostate cancer so I do know what i am talking about.
