Recommended for all patients with lung cancer are safe and effective pain relief; individualized drug therapy can be used to control pain; palliative radiotherapy in patients with advanced lung cancer can control the pain and palliative chemotherapy also recommended to control pain and other symptoms of bone metastases obvious pain of lung cancer Patients, bisphosphonates joint recommendation of radiotherapy to relieve the pain; stenting can be used as the superior vena cava obstruction, tracheo-esophageal fistula or bronchial fistula palliative treatment.

Palliative treatment of lung cancer is an important component of treatment can improve the quality of life and even survival, “Guide” for lung cancer common symptoms (such as pain, coughing and breathing difficulties, etc.) for the palliative treatment of the evidence-based assessment and recommendations:

1. Imperative that all lung cancer patients and their families be assured that their pain can be safe and effective mitigation, should the law to all inquiries in patients with pain, pain in patients with a simple self-report and assessment of the scale as the main source of (evidence level: 1A).

2. For all patients, the use of individual control of pain medication, there should be laws and administration in an appropriate treatment for pain, pain during treatment regularly assess the effectiveness of treatment (level of evidence: 1 A).

3. For all patients with mild to moderate pain, to ensure that no contraindications to use the circumstances, the initial use of acetaminophen or non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs control pain, or more serious when the pain intensified, the use of opiates ( Level of evidence: 1 B).

4. To any patients, is expected to continue the use of opioids, not recommended pethidine, which is due to its role in a short time, and metabolites of pethidine to a toxic, can cause central nervous system excitement, irritability result Anxiety, irritability and seizures (level of evidence: 1 B).

5. The pain is not through simple analgesics to control, auxiliary drugs such as tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsant drugs and stability of drugs often increase the effectiveness of simple analgesics (level of evidence: 1 C).

6. Recommended for all patients with oral administration, because of their convenience and economy, not on oral analgesics, recommended by the rectum or transdermal delivery, do not recommend the use of intramuscular injection is due to its analgesic drug can cause pain, inconvenience Absorption and unreliable (level of evidence: 1 C).

7. Constipation due to opioids in the treatment of common and deal with its forecast, given preventive treatment and regular check (level of evidence: 1 B).

8. Activities to encourage all patients to maintain and, where possible, to self-censorship, not as much as possible to avoid prolonged activity (level of evidence: 1 B).

9. The pain and muscle tension and convulsion related, recommended measures to stimulate the skin (fomentation and Cold Compress), acupuncture and psychological treatment, and other ways to relieve the pain, mental pain care can be incorporated into the treatment plan, but not a substitute for analgesics ( Level of evidence: 1 C).

10. For patients with advanced lung cancer, palliative radiotherapy can control the pain and palliative chemotherapy recommended to alleviate pain and other symptoms, even if its survival is not significantly improve the (level of evidence: 1 B).

11. Analgesia does not work on the standards of patients with lung cancer, the recommendation of its professional go to the pain clinic or palliative care related to the diagnosis and treatment (level of evidence: 1 C).

12. All complained of breathing difficulties in patients with lung cancer, recommended assessment of all its possible causes, such as the atmosphere, partial obstruction, a large number of pleural effusion, pulmonary embolism or merger of COPD or congestive heart failure increased, if the above causes clear, to recommend Appropriate treatment (level of evidence: 1 C).

13. For all patients with lung cancer, breathing difficulties if their treatment can not be the cause, recommended to opiates, while the other recommended methods such as oxygen therapy pharmacology, bronchiectasis agents and corticosteroids (level of evidence: 1 C).

With breathing difficulties on all the patients with lung cancer, the recommendation to consider non-pharmacological and non-invasive therapy, such as the patients and their families education, respiratory control, walking exercise, relaxation therapy and psychological support (level of evidence: 2 C).

15. Cough for all the problems of patients with lung cancer, the recommendation of its treatable causes of the assessment (level of evidence: 1 B); if not treatable causes, recommend the use of opioids antitussive (level of evidence: 1 B).

16. The pain is caused by bone metastases patients with lung cancer, radiation therapy, recommended to alleviate the pain, the immediate pain relief, the dose of 8 Gy single radiotherapy and the effect of radiation on many occasions the same division (level of evidence: 1 A); but Compared with the single radiotherapy, radiotherapy split many times the pain relief for longer, the number of treatment need to fewer and fewer bone-related events (level of evidence: 1 A).

17. For obvious pain bone metastases patients with lung cancer, bisphosphonates joint recommendation of radiotherapy to alleviate the pain (level of evidence: 1 A); if patients on analgesics, radiotherapy and tolerance bisphosphonates, to recommend to radioactive substances Relieve the pain (level of evidence: 1 B); if transferred to the long bones and (or) load-bearing bone, and there is isolated, clearly limits the osteolytic changes (to hit more than 50 percent of the cortex), and satisfaction and health status is expected to survive more than four weeks , To recommend surgery fixed so that the possibility of fracture to a minimum, recommended priority intramedullary nailing, especially on the femur or humerus (level of evidence: 1 C).

18. To have the symptoms of brain metastases, recommended the completion of six weeks a specific treatment (surgery or radiotherapy) for the period of dexamethasone (16 mg / d) treatment during this period can quickly reduction or withdrawal (level of evidence: 1 B) .

19. Isolation of a brain transfer of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), double-check if the exclusion of other distant metastasis or lymph node metastasis, consideration should be given to primary tumors of the lung radical resection (evidence level: 1C); No transfer to other parts of the same period resectable N0 ~ 1期primary NSCLC, in addition to the removal of the tumor, but also deal with isolated brain metastases to surgical resection or radiotherapy surgical excision, the removal of isolated brain metastases, should be followed To whole brain radiation therapy (level of evidence: 1 B).

20. On the back of new patients with lung cancer, recommended the entire spinal sagittal T1-weighted MRI examination to help diagnosis, but not recommended simple X-ray, bone scan or CT myelography, and other diagnostic inspection (level of evidence: 1 C) .

21. Epidural spinal cord of a transfer, if they are not able to move around and Qingtan, recommended immediate large dose of dexamethasone and radiotherapy (level of evidence: 1 B).

22. When the X-ray examination confirmed that patients with signs of a spinal cord compression, should be considered neurosurgery consultation, if possible, to have metastatic epidural spinal cord compression but the physical state (PS) can still score, should immediately surgery, following Radiotherapy to the (level of evidence: 1 A).

23. Hemoptysis for all of the large number of patients with lung cancer, recommended bronchoscopy to clear source of bleeding, followed by bronchial treatment, such as argon plasma coagulation, Nd-YAG laser and fulguration of (evidence level: 1 C).

24. Malignant pleural effusion to have symptoms of patients with lung cancer, recommended as the preferred wear chest drainage measures to alleviate the symptoms (evidence level: 1 C).

25. Wear on the chest after the recurrence of pleural effusion symptoms of patients with lung cancer, chest tube drainage retention recommendation and pleural fixation (level of evidence: 1 B).

26. Suspected of having lung cancer caused by the superior vena cava (SVC) obstructive symptoms, treatment recommended by the organization before the start of school or cytological diagnosis methods (level of evidence: 1 C); small cell lung cancer (SCLC) led to the SVC obstruction, Recommended to chemotherapy (level of evidence: 1 C); NSCLC led to the SVC obstruction, recommend stenting and (or) radiotherapy. Similarly recommend stenting for the non-response to chemotherapy or radiotherapy, with symptoms of SCLC SVC obstruction or NSCLC (level of evidence: 1 C).

27. Malignant diseases of the tracheo-esophageal fistula or bronchial fistula patients, consideration should be given esophagus, trachea or esophagus + tracheal stenting to alleviate the symptoms. It is not recommended to attempt involvement trachea and (or) esophageal radical resection of esophageal or shunt (level of evidence: 1 C).

28. Recommend evaluation of all lung cancer patients whether there is depression, if it exists, should be given the appropriate treatment (level of evidence: 1 C).

Lung cancer palliative care consultation and evaluation of the quality of life hospice care

For all patients with advanced lung cancer, recommended as a treatment for palliative care as part of the charge of the health care team members regularly use of standardized assessment methods and simple symptoms of disease-specific health-related quality of life survey conducted its assessment of that spirit and humanistic care The importance.

Palliative care consultation, evaluation of the quality of life of patients with lung cancer should be run through the entire course of treatment until the patient died, “Guide” recommendations:

1. For all patients with advanced lung cancer (and their families), recommended palliative care into their treatment, including those to cure or prolong life for the purpose of treatment (level of evidence: 1 C).

It%26#039;s 2007, we haven%26#039;t come close to finding a cure. Lives aren%26#039;t being saved.|||First of all, there will be no one cure for cancer.

Secondly, you are completely wrong. Lives ARE being saved in many, many cancers. In the past there were many cancers that had no treatment whatsoever. Now many people can live long lives after a diagnosis of cancer. Breast cancer in particular used to have no treatment except surgery, and now upwards of 90 percent of people may be cured of their breast cancer. It is a chronic illness, because no one knows when it may come back, but many people live a very long time after having had it.

Of course the major area in breast cancer research in particular that needs to be tackled is metastatic disease, because at this point they do not have a cure for that. But the drug Herceptin is a relatively new drug that has most definitely saved lives or certainly extended the lives of women with one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer.

They are finding out new things every day in this field. Biogenetics is a particularly promising area.

You are sorely misinformed when you say %26quot;lives aren%26#039;t being saved.%26quot; Your understanding of cancer also seems to be very limited. Cancer is not one disease, therefore there will not be one cure. Even breast cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma, they are not each one single disease. They have many subsets and some are actually curable. There is no magic bullet and there never, ever will be. But cancers can and will be cured.

Cancer research needs much more funding, not less.|||Absolutely not. Research is extending lives|||it%26#039;s not pointless. i want to keep contributing because they are getting closer to finding a cure. someday they will. you never know.|||we have found lots of cures and treatments. the most recent cure to some forms of HPV is Guardasil. talk to your local American Cancer Society.|||It is not pointless, it is useful in finding drugs to cure cancer, it is the FDA that will not approve the medicines.

My father had cancer. In April 1998, my grandmother came to me in a dream or vision to talk to me about my father, she said that she was disappointed in me for not taking better care of my daddy. But she proceeded to tell me that my father would not make it to Christmas. This really upset me. she also continued to tell me that there is a new treatment/cure for cancer but she knew that my dad couldn%26#039;t pay for it. She said that the FDA would not approve of this drug. She told me that she loved me %26amp; asked me to hug my daddy%26#039;s neck for her %26amp; to tell him she loves him.

The next day I went to my aunt %26amp; uncles house and I was telling my aunt about this dream and she said there is a guy overseas that says he has a cure for cancer %26amp; about that time the news channel she had it one was talking about the drug. Well, that wasn%26#039;t the only thing my grandmother was right about because my fatehr died on June 17th, 1998.|||I use to wonder but once I got Cancer myself I have did a lot of research on all kinds of cancer and find that a lot of cancer can be put into remission for years and some can have a almost normal life. The last 3 years have really been an exciting time for new things in cancer research So please don%26#039;t think that the giving is pointless as it gives hope to a lot of folks.|||Do a little research on what cancer is. You%26#039;ll realize it is an incredibly complex topic and not just one disease.

Research is very expensive.

You are very wrong about lives not being saved. The 5-year survival rate (often considered a cure indicator) has increased from 51% in 1975 to 66% now.

http://www.cancer.org/downloads/STT/CAFF…

Basic research has lead to:

1) knowledge on how healthy and cancer cells work

2) identifying carcinogens

3) new therapies including vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, hormone blockers, small molecule inhibitors

It is money well spent.|||Research is not just about cures, its also about giving better quality of life to patients and longer survival times. Actually people are being saved! Cancers can be found and treated much earlier than they used to be with much more efficency and less side effects.

So carry on giving to cancer research…one day you may be glad you did!|||Not giving money to cancer research is pointless. Cancer cure rates are not even close to acceptable. At the current pace you will know many people in your lifetime who will suffer, or die, or both, from cancer or cancer related illnesses. If you are very close to any of those people, and you probably will be, I guarantee you will not think it is pointless anymore. Do you really want to wait until that happens before you do something? Like I did.|||No it is not pointless. Lives ARE being saved. My son is one of them.

They literally, were preparing me for his death the first night he was diagnosed! They didn%26#039;t think he would make it through the next week. His body was shutting down. He was 15 and 6%26#039; 2%26quot; and they were doing what the protocols for kids his age would call for. They completely came up with a new protocol and it worked! They now use my son%26#039;s case to treat new patients.

Yes, lives are still being taken by this horrible disease, but MANY are living longer, stronger and healthy lives because of the research that has already been done.

Even God did not create the world in a day. And we are making progress , just not as fast as we would like.

Can anyone tell me of the detailed personal effects of liver cancer on them?|||I can tell you my mums experience with this desease. She firstly started with colon cancer and then spread to her liver. My mum always used to eat quite well but when she started chemo her appetite went completely. From the beginning she knew that her desease was terminal. She quickly started losing weight and eventually her abdomen started swelling due to her liver getting enlarged. Also she was always very sleepy and quite weak. She took vitamins and also she was prescribed some vitamin milkshakes as she was not eating properly. This type of cancer is usually terminal as normally it is a secondary cancer, this means that there is cancer in another place of the body. My mum was given 6 months to live but my mum survived a year and 5 months as her will to live was so strong. Sadly my mum lost her battle to cancer on the 27 May 2006.|||my friend had liver cancer….its a dangerous form of cancer because even if the cancer is diagnosed early, its hard to cure because the liver isnt working. Or sometimes it isnt working 100%. He could barely eat. But, thats not completely true. We dont know for sure. Because he also had stomach cancer, and part of his stomach was cut out and stapled. So, he ate very little. After that, he didnt eat much. So, he took some vitamins for the liver, on recommendation from the doctors. As a matter of fact, it helped fight off the cancer. I think its vitamins that help strengthen the immune system or something like that. This is opposite of what doctors say and what universities say. They say that, cancer lives on the same things normal cells do. So, if we eat, we get stronger, and cancer does too. But, they never say that the body has its own natural ability to fight cancer. So, the stronger you become, the better chance of you fighting even strong cancer. He grew very very skinny. He was about 130 pounds. After a while, he was weighing like 90 pounds.

can someone break it down THOROUGHLY in layman%26#039;s terms.|||First off and foremost let me express some heart felt sympathy for you and your family. This has got to be tough on everyone right now. The good news is that this cancer can be one of the easiest to treat with minimal risk of the cancer spreading to other places in the body, if it is detected (caught) early enough.

The thyroid is a big lump of tissue called a gland. It sits right near the middle of your neck, in the front, under your skin but overlying your throat. The tissue pumps out or secretes hormones. Not estrogen, but different hormones that control heart rate, blood pressure, and calcium levels in your body. Since it effects the heart rate it effects metabolism. Fast heart rates burn off calories so hyperactivite thyroid (over active like a %26quot;hyper%26quot; kid) would cause weight loss and slow or hypoactive thyroid would cause weight gain. Calcium levels can fluctuate or go up and down based on one of the hormones it releases regardless of how much milk, cheese, etc. The thyroid controls how much calcium stays in the body and how much you %26quot;pee%26quot; out.

Cancer is caused by irritation of tissues over a long period of time. Thyroid cancers are most commonly caused by a lot of exposure to radiation - this can be from cigarettes. Also having a family history can cause genetics to play a role. In the United States, women are almost three times more likely than men to develop thyroid cancer. Most people with thyroid cancer are more than 45 years old.

Iodine is a substance found in shellfish and iodized salt. Scientists are studying abnormal iodine levels as a possible risk factor for thyroid cancer. More studies are needed to know whether iodine is a risk factor for sure at this point. Iodine is added to salt to prevent the formation of a super-sized thyroid which is also called a %26quot;goiter%26quot;

Treatment for thyroid cancer includes surgical removal of the thyroid tissue (gland) by way of a 3 to 4 inch incision in the neck just below the middle of the front of your neck (where a turtle-neck sweater would go).

IF SHE HAS SURGERY - This surgery is short - maybe about 30 minutes in the operating room. Add one hour or two for preparation and recovery times. Then your mom will spend the night to keep an eye on her blood pressure and her blood (body) calcium levels. Since calcium also effects how well the muscles react, if she has any muscle cramps of her hands, arm, or legs during her stay she should tell the nurse. She will have to take calcium pills after surgery and they will do what will seem like a LOT of blood tests but it%26#039;s to check her calcium levels. Have her ask for throat spray or lozenges for her sore throat because it will hurt a bit to swallow the pills. Ice packs to the throat for 20 minutes at a time will help with swelling of the site.

Your mom%26#039;s doctor will decide if due to the %26quot;staging%26quot; she will benefit from radiation therapy. Staging means how advanced the cancer was in it%26#039;s development - how long after the cancer started was it discovered by a physician and if it could have spread at all to other nearby tissues. Lower stages of development are better so a stage 1 or 2 would be better than a stage 4. Stage 4 means the cancer shows signs of %26quot;metastisis%26quot; or spreading to other areas of the body.

Other treatments - Radiation therapy from a machine would be given to the neck specifically. Chemotherapy (medicine through an IV in her arm or chest) or radioactive iodine is given if the cancer could have spread anywhere else through the blood or lymph fluid (which is like blood in that it circulates through the whole body through a %26quot;tubular%26quot; system much like blood vessels or veins). This would treat the whole body instead of just the neck or a %26quot;local%26quot; treatment for the cancer.

If her thyroid gland is surgically removed, your mom will need to take medication to act as her new thyroid. The hormone pills will replace what used to be sent out from the tissue. She will probably have to get her calcium levels checked and will take calcium supplements (vitamins). She will need to take this the rest of her life. Which I hope will be a long, long, time. : )|||The good news…Most thyroid cancers are curable. Check out this link. It also list the different types of thyroid cancer. Let me know if you have any specific questions or call a professional in your area.

http://www.endocrineweb.com/thyroidca.ht…|||This is the explanation (the patient version) for thyroid cancer, from the National Cancer Institute:

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/t…

it%26#039;s organized in sections and it covers all info -including stages, tratement.

I hope your mom will get well soon; until then, be strong, patient and never lose hope and faith! God can help her.|||My sister was diagnosed with thyroid cancer a year or so ago. They removed her thyroid and she is fine. The doctor told her that if you had to get cancer, cancer of the thyroid is the best place to get it because it is the most curable. Good luck.|||a little advice ,all cancers are anarobic all off them which means they are all basically caused by the same thing ,lack of oxygen in the body ,started by a mineral defficientcy not a chemo therapy defficientcy. look up otto warberg on the internet and youll start to understand, then get a copy of dead doctors dont lie by dr joel wallach immediately things will change.good luck|||The thyroid gland is located in your neck, right where your neck and jaw meet. Thyroid cancer starts out with abnormal growth of the tissues. At first, all of the cancer cells are contained inside the thyroid gland, and the cancer is easily cured by removing all or part of the gland. If the cancer grows for a long enough time, it can start to spread to nearby areas in the throat, or travel to other parts of the body through the blood stream. Wherever the cancer cells end up, they replace the normal cells and whatever functions were provided by the normal cells are lost. Health problems develop when an organ can%26#039;t do its job because of the cancer.

Cancer treatment involves killing the cancer cells, while trying not to kill the healthy cells. This is very easy to do when the cancer is isolated to a small area, and it becomes increasingly difficult as the cancer spreads. Small areas of cancer can be treated with surgery or a beam of radiation; cancer spread over large ares requires chemo therapy.

The good thing about thyroid cancer is that people are so sensitive to changes in the thyroid that the cancer is usually caught before it spreads, so it is usually easy to treat.|||Thyroid cancer recovery rates are close to 100%…the worst case scenario is probably complete removal of the thyroid, which just means mom will have to take a pill every day to replace its function.

Best wishes to Mom!|||All cancers are able to be cured the thing is, to make sure that we get to them on time, timing is very important and of the essense when dealing with cancers.|||If your mother has one of the most common types of thyroid cancer, papillary or follicular, her outlook is very (very) good. Usually curable. I had papillary cancer at the age of 33, and 2 years later feel completely fine.

The treatment includes surgery to remove the thyroid and then radioactive iodine. Your thyroid is one of the only parts of the body that absorbs iodine so if you make the iodine radioactive any remaining thyroid tissue (from after the surgery) will absorb it and die off.

Radioactive iodine is a pill you swallow. You need to limit your contact with other people for several days (b/c you%26#039;re radioactive!), but other than that I didn%26#039;t experience any side effects.

Traditional radiation therapy or chemo is almost never used.

After the initial treatment your mom will continued to be monitored for the rest of her life to make sure it doesn%26#039;t come back. I go to the doctors every six months or so for simple blood tests, and every year I have a body scan (basically a giant xray).

Cancer is a very scary word, but chances are your mom will be just fine. Hang in there.

Cancer kills 7 million people worldwide each year. Yet it is a treatable disease that—in time—is beatable. However, in today’s troubled global environment, valuable resources that would otherwise go to cancer research are frequently re-directed by the crisis du jour.

What can we, as individuals and as a global community, do to focus %26amp; mobilize our governments to find the cures that will make cancer a fear of the past?|||I think that we need to look at our priorities. Yes, cancer kills many millions of people a year, but more people are killed in much more easily preventable ways. For example, in some countries children die all the time from diarrhea, which is easily preventable and easily treatable with the right medical help. Tuberculosis is still a big killer in poor countries, even though it can be treated as well. In some countries women die in childbirth 10% of the time. In some countries 30% or more of the population has HIV or AIDS. This is just unacceptable. Cancer is awful, but unfortunately it is just not the biggest problem in the world and it shouldn%26#039;t be our biggest priority.|||The human population is exploding as it is. Until humans become responsible enough to limit and reverse their population growth, do we really need more cures?|||now today they are finding out that the products we puchase like toothpaste, soaps, beauty products, and deordant all have certain chemicals in it that cause cause cancer. people need to start buying all natural products and that is a start.|||Unfortunately, I don%26#039;t think governments are interested in the cure because there is no money in it—money comes from the sick people who need to purchase the TREATMENTS. It%26#039;s sick and very sad indeed! I am tired of losing people to this monster!

Yes, this is a tad personal but seeing as no one actually knows me on here it is fine.

3-4 months ago, I was shocked to find that there was a large structure next to my penis. I shrugged it off thinking it may have been from it being bruised by an unwanted previous encounter(aka kicked in the nuts :P).

This week it has slowly moved down into scrotom. Scarily enough, today it seems as if this embodiement has attached itself to my left testicle. The bond between these two is very painful.

I did some research on cancer of the testes but could not find anything related to me story. Please, someone out there, help me know if there is a problem.(age 15)|||Hey Hon - stop looking for your answers on the Internet and get your behind in to the Doctor. You need to tell your parents (I know it%26#039;s really awkward) and get an appointment right away. They will do a testicular ultrasound to see what is going on. Unfortunately, it is human nature to imagine the worst when something isn%26#039;t right. Know what you%26#039;re dealing with so that you can get the proper medical treatment. The Internet can be a great resource for some information, but can also scare the crap out of us. I have attached a link to a Cleveland Clinic web page - it explains that there are all sorts of disorders. Just see all the different possibilities and let your Dr. diagnose. Even if it is the big %26quot;C%26quot;, it can usually be treated successfully with little disruption in your life. I%26#039;ll be thinking about you - good luck.|||I%26#039;m not sure you are even serious. However, I will entertain and let you know the first symptom of testicular cancer is a lump on one of the testicles. Go see a doctor. You may have a hernia.|||go to the doctor now the sooner you are seen the better.

get peace of mind

I had a family member tell me that I should not drink soda that it causes bone cancer..through my research I can not find any information on that…would anyone know if there is any truth to

this belief.|||Some of the flavouring and colouring in soft drinks have been linked to cancer (110, 102 etc.). Some countries have actually banned them, others feel that it%26#039;s too little added to have a strong enough effect.

However, as to just soda water =%26gt; it%26#039;s basically only water with carbon dioxide gas. I don%26#039;t think that should give you cancer.

Maybe instead of searching for information under SODA, search for SOFT DRINKS or CARBONATED DRINKS.|||No it doesn%26#039;t but it will rot out your teeth|||I%26#039;m not too sure whether it will cause bone cancer. But it will decrease the calcium level of ur bones. Too much soda can be one of the factors of stomach cancer though. REmeber a healthy diet is a good way to prevent cancer.|||No, not that I know of, at least not specifically bone cancer.

However, there have been reports on possible carcinogens (that is apart from studies on aspartame as carcinogen) in soft drinks. Here is the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_drink

It says that 79% of soft drinks contained levels of benzene (a known carcinogen) above the recommended limit for drinking water established by the WHO. The levels were not considered dangerous though.

But the main danger of soft drinks is that if you have way too much it can make you overweight, possibly with type 2 diabetes.

I kind of feel dumb at the moment… I was researching breast cancer, and it said that there is a 50% chance of passing the breast cancer-risk gene to the offspring, if the mother has it… Now, I thought each parent had 1 dominant and 1 recessive gene for each trait… Assuming the mother is heterozygous, and that the gene was dominant that caused a risk for cancer, wouldn%26#039;t that make it a 1 in 4 chance of passing the gene to the offspring? If so, why?|||The gene for breast cancer - BRCA1 + 2, is dominant. Therefore it is a 50-50 chance of transmission.

I just made this image to show you why its 50-50…

http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/5109/cc…

C = Brca

c = normal gene

Therefore 50%

Why hasn%26#039;t this come out before? My mother died from breast cancer 11 years ago. I did my research at that time %26amp; refused using this. Doctors were still pushing it at that time. Are the drug companies THAT powerful?|||Absolutely.

This basic gist is:

Estrogen causes cells to grow rapidly, and never mature. This is how cancers grow quickly.

Progesterone, on the other hand, causes cells to mature and die off.

If you balance estrogen with progesterone, you are protecting yourself from female cancers.

It has been known since synthetic HRT was introduced that it harmed women. There is NO evidence that estrogen supplementation is beneficial.

Makes you sick thinking about what Big Pharma has done to us, doesn%26#039;t it??? (There%26#039;s a book you should check out from your local library called %26quot;The Greatest Experiment Ever Performed on Women%26quot;.)|||Actually, this has been big news in the mass media since the WHI trial was stopped prematurely back in 2001-2002. Both hormone replacement and the birth control pill can increase the risk of breast cancer as well as blood clots, heart disease, and stroke. Doctors should counsel their patients on this, and balance the risk (which is relatively small in younger women) against the potential benefits of treatment. With any medication, it%26#039;s always a matter of balancing potential risk versus potential benefit.|||The drug companies are powerful, but many women quit using hormones after the trail of 2002 was stopped. Now they found out that quitting reduced the breast cancer (in the US only) by 7%. Most women have to decide for themselves if they are ready to take the risk or not. Women who had a total hysterectomy and suffer from severe hot flashes many times decide that life as such is too difficult and decide to take hormones knowing all the risks. This is my experience anyway.

Though many say the rates are low in men, there have been only a handful of such studies and only one was comprehensive, done by Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City. They put the rates at 15% of all cases, but it is often misdiagnosed. In men, it rapidly moves to the lungs, killing the man within weeks, so cause of death is most often listed as lung cancer. N.O.W. has opposed any government funding into studies of breast cancer in men.
