my husband has prostate cancer and wont get it fixed i was wondering how long he has to live|||There is no reason to die from prostate cancer. Your husband is fearful and/or selfish. Brachytherapy and radiation is the treatment I opted for. It was easy and relatively painless, and I am fully functional now. I expect to live for another 50 years. My treatment center: http://www.dattoli.com/|||There is no way of knowing for sure. It can be a few month%26#039;s to a few years.|||If he is not going for the treatment, then it will depend on how healthy he was to start with and how lucky he was. My brother-in-law was only given a couple of months. Both his sons had time to impregnate their wives and deliver grandchildren before he died. I think he went almost 18 months.|||It depends on how soon it is recognized. If biopsies confirm that the cancer hasn%26#039;t spread from the prostate gland, than there is an excellent chance for recovery with either surgery or various forms of radiation or even freezing the gland. It the cancer has metastasized, then chemo and hormone therapy may be an option. If it has metastasized to the bone, then if could be a matter of weeks or months, depending on when you first realized the extent of the cancer.|||How foolish of him and how sad for you. It is done every day and the survival rate is great! He has to speak to his Dr. again. Try to make him realize what he is doing, not just to himself, but the whole family.|||It varies from person to person. It all depends on what stage of cancer he is in.|||prostate cancer is the easiest cancer to cure - there must be a psychological reason he does not want to go through treatment Please sit down and talk with him or have him talk with someone professionally- it seems he has a death wish almost. call the American cancer society at 18002272345 get some info on prostate cancer let him read it let him see what the treatment is - has he talked to his doctor about the treatment- find out what is bothering him and try to assure him of it please- with this type of cancer if caught in time he does not need to die|||My father has prostate cancer and his prognosis was BAD when he was first diagnosed (his PSA was 250 and it had already metastasized to his bones). However, he underwent hormone therapy (Lupron shots and Casodex) and he lived the next seven and a half years relatively healthy. Unfortunately, in Sept. of this year we learned the cancer has spread farther and he is in his final days, however, he FAR outlived everyone%26#039;s expectations.

Now, my girlfriend%26#039;s father was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the same time as my father, it had not spread, he had surgery to remove it and he is healthy as a horse and cancer free.|||Prostate cancer is fairly slow growing in it%26#039;s early stages, dependingon how old he is and how advanced it was when he was first diagnosed he may still have many years left. A few have been known to live out their lives not knowing they had prostate cancer. Having said that, it is very curable so he%26#039;d benifit a great amount from having treatment (but of course you already know that). His health care team may have a better chance of convincing him to give treatment a try. If there%26#039;s a particular type of treament he%26#039;s worried about he probably doesn%26#039;t even need to go though it as there are lots of different methods of curing prostate cancer. The one thing i would say is that, if the cancer becomes very advanced, it%26#039;s going to cause him a lot more pain and suffering than any treament will do so, in my opinion, he%26#039;s far better off being treated than suffering at the end.

If it is true, the prostate cancer rate in mexico would be very low? Is there any medical research to back it up?|||Capsaicin in Hot Peppers May Prove Useful, Lab Tests Show|||No. Don%26#039;t be naive.|||well they don%26#039;t have cancer as much as we do over here.|||I recently read something about some anti carcinogenic compounds found in hot peppers that seem to indicate that they inhibit prostate cancer…don%26#039;t know if this is the capsaicin or what..or if this was observed at a very high dose….good question though|||http://www.newsfactor.com/news/Red-Hot-C…

Check out this link.|||The ingredient that you are talking about in peppers is called Capsacin. I am not sure what it%26#039;s benifits are reguarding prostate cancer, but alot of people take Capsacin supplements. Personally having lost my grandfather to prostate cancer, I wish more men were aware of prostate health.|||I started to rail against this as another bogus silly story, but apparently there may be something to it:

http://health.dailynewscentral.com/conte…

(at least for mice with prostate cancer!)

Eat them %26#039;cos they taste good!|||Let me tell you about hot peppers. I had a chicken tika masala last night and asked for it to be a little more spicy than normal. (They aren%26#039;t usually spicy) They chopped up a pepper (chili) and chucked it in there. I puked my ring up all night long. AND, my prostrate, well, we%26#039;ll just have to see. Incidentally, They normally eat jalapenos in Mexico and chili peppers in India. Are there any data showing comparisons in prostrate cancer rates between the two countries?|||yeah you got to shove em us ya ****

A fellow co-worker, formerly of Bagdad, Iraq, at an engineering firm I use to work for, once told me that because they squat to pee as part of their culture, that they have very few cases of Prostate cancer in their country. Is there any medical evidence to back this up. Give references. Jeeveswantstoknow…- Curious.|||hi i am from egypt(arabian too) and i am biologist anyway prostate cancer infect men who watch porn too much without having sex or jerking off. so it is recommend after watching porn and for arabs and most islamic countries porngraghy is illegal so men and women donot watch porn .they only have sex( off course married people only) so infection will be much lesser than countries which porn is legal.AND SQUAT TO PEE NOT IN OUR CULTURE.

In most cases, urologists says that sexual abstinence has no negative effects, because the body has the ability to reabsorb the exceeding seminal fluid, and sometimes it is expelled through %26#039;wet dreams%26#039;. Some oriental practitioners even teach us that ejaculation is not good for health and weakens the body, and developed some techniques to avoid ejaculation during sexual stimulation. However, many articles suggests that holding the seminal fluid in the body is unhealthy, and may lead even to cancer prostate. It is true?|||I%26#039;m not sure it will leads to cancer. But your prostate needs the exercise for sure….|||sounds like some of the old wives tales I grew up with, like %26quot;I%26#039;ll never achieve an erection if I don%26#039;t have sex before I%26#039;m 18%26quot;,ask your doctor, but it sounds untrue to me|||That why people can masturbate. You got to try it sometime. It not sex with a partner but is sex with yourself. It sometimes can be fun. Got to try it yourself sometime. No health risks of doing this either. Masturbation an all natural thing for people to do.

I presently have prostate cancer and have been treated with 120 radio active iodine seeds imbedded in my prostate gland. I do not want to follw up with hormone therapy but want to lower my testosterone level via vitamins or herb therpy. My PSA after the seed procedure was at 1.29 but a year and a half later has risen to 1.78.|||If you really want to avoid the therapy - then I would see a naturopath - don%26#039;t screw around with remedies you read on the web. This is your life you%26#039;re talking about. I am all for homeopathic, herbal and naturopathic remedies, but most of them I talk to (who are any good) believe that combination therapy is a good thing. You might be able to follow up with hormone therapy - but take something homeopathic or naturopathic to help with the side effects or to help cleanse your body (just make sure it doesn%26#039;t interact with your therapy) Some herbs and remedies can actually counteract certain treatments - so see a professional. I know - seeing a classical homeopath can work wonders. My sister shrank her cancerous tumour in her breast (before surgery) to a third of its size - through one dose of a remedy. I used a homeopathic vet for my cat too - and her tumour went down to next to nothing as well. But remember - they all help each other. Good luck.|||I grind up hulled pumpkin seeds into a meal and mix into cereal daily, 2 tbsp or so.

I realize this is more preventive than curative, however.

Sorry about this trouble, hope you can find some solution.

Have you ever heard this site below ? It is a treasure trove !

Dig in !|||You should be aware of the product Zyflamend by New Chapter which was determined by Columbia University to cause apoptosis in prostate cancer cell lines. This product is composed of spice grade herbs like Tumeric, Ginger and Green Tea, but has a special potency associated with what%26#039;s known as %26quot;supercritical extraction,%26quot; a carbon dioxide driven extraction process which takes 250 lbs of herb to make 1 pound of extract; it also pulls out - at low temperature and high pressure - all of the plant%26#039;s active constituents: water, alcohol and fat soluble phytonutrients. I would also take the product Prostate 5lx by the same company, because it contains high levels of beta-sitosterol, which binds up with the enzyme that transforms testosterone into its toxic, prostate swelling metabolite: dihydrotestosterone. Furthermore, pick up a copy of Dr. Aron Katz%26#039;s %26quot;Prostate Health.%26quot; He is the foremost urologist today who is showing people both conventional and alternative ways to manage prostate issues. Good luck.|||1. PSA is a cancer marker, but less important than before. 2. what type of ca you had? metastases ? 3. how much testosterone you have ? no vitamines %26amp;herbs reduce it 4. some help : zn, urgenin ,zabar flowers, antioxidants etc zachi|||got limu if not go to jamesvandusen.originallimu.com and study up on it i know it will help it helps with a lot of other things such as stress hi p blood perisher and pains in your body it wont heal thou it also helps on weight any More info go to james46vandusen@yahoo.com and ill be glad to help|||You have been given quite a bit of poor advice here. If you try to self treat yourself for prostate cancer you will be making a serious mistake. Your slight rise in PSA is not really significant and is something that needs to be discussed with your urologist or oncologist anyways and not on Yahoo answers. Suggest you join and read the ACOR prostate cancer list at http://ppml.acor.org/ or access sci.med.prostate.cancer on Usenet accessed through your newsreader or Google groups.|||You don%26#039;t say what your age is, so I don%26#039;t know but here goes. The most definitive way to lower your hormone levels is an orchiectomy - castration. I work in a hospital and have seen this used for men in the Amish community who do not wish to pursue chemo or other therapies they consider extreme. It is an option you could look into, anyway.|||the answer is glyconutrients. Info on my blog.

Your father%26#039;s doctor will have to perform biopsy to diagnosed your father.

I have had prostate cancer for years, now all of a sudden a new urologist says I need my testicles removed to slow the growth. Unless it will reduce the size of the prostate and allow me to urinate without a catheter, why shouldn%26#039;t I just stick with the injections if it accomplishes the same thing chemically? Is there any benefit to surgery that is worth the pain and risk?|||i%26#039;d get another opinion.

My grandpa is on kemo for prostate cancer. He%26#039;s not nauseous and still has his appetite, but is diabetic- so sending sweets is out. He is so weak and tired- I live in NY and he%26#039;s in Idaho- I can%26#039;t be there to care for him but want to show him I still care so much- Do you have any thoughtful practical gift ideas?

I call weekly to talk and tell him I love him- I just want to give something tangible that can help him feel better…

i think i should give my grandma something too- she%26#039;s going through soo much right now with him being sick… (they just had their 60th aniversary!)|||That%26#039;s very sweet of you. Does he like flavored coffees or teas? Maybe something like that. I know the peppermint tea made my father feel better, but he was a tea drinker. And green tea is very healthful so that may help him feel better.

Maybe you could make a home video of yourself saying hello and telling how much you miss them and love them.

You are a great person and wonderful granddaughter!|||Well you sound awesome!!!! I would get him things like crossword puzzles, Maybe some books. And When I was sick my kids got me lots of movies…..|||How about a basket full of puzzles, cross words, those little twisted metal mind games that you have to undo and then re-do. Or maybe some paints, and paper. Those are busy work that%26#039;s fun to do and hay who knows maybe he could make you some new art for your walls. Great idea for a gift basket, good luck, best wishes.|||That is very kind of you to think of sending them a gift.

There are lots of sugar-free items available through floral shops…

What about sending cookie mixes (sugar free)… this will give your Grandma something to do instead of worrying…

My thoughts and prayers for his speedy recovery…|||you might want to get him:

-sugar free cookies ( my cousin is around 40 and hes diabetic so my family got him some of those)

- a new movie (might want that if he is sitting in his room all day)

I have prostate cancer and my treatment is: Hormone Therapy and External Beam Radiation. Is my blood OK to use for what ever purposes blood banks use it?

I can%26#039;t help any other way at the moment and wish to continue helping others. Prior to my cancer I would do volunteer work. Now I am too tired to do the physical work I used to do. Even driving my car has been too much.|||Blood banks must follow Food %26amp; Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines. Contact your area blood bank with this question.

Regarding the use of donated blood: By FDA regulations, if you are paid to donate plasma (this process is called plasmapheresis), this plasma is not transfused into human beings. The companies you donate to will sell the plasma to research companies and drug manufacturers.

You do not mention how long you have been receiving your radiation therapy. Your oncologist should be able to instruct you regarding fatigue–what causes it, how long it will last, what can be done to address it so you may become active again. You are a very unselfish, empathetic person to be still thinking of others in your own times of hardship–bless you.

Please talk to your oncologist. I hope your cancer is treated successfully!|||No you can%26#039;t because of your medication and treatment.|||No you shouldn%26#039;t be giving blood. Take it easy a while and concentrate on your own healing. You best serve others when you are ina better position to do so.|||After radiation for breast cancer, my local blood bank permanently deferred me from giving blood. I don%26#039;t know if it was because of the cancer or the radiation, but they just aren%26#039;t interested in my O- anymore. Sorry.|||Usually the criteria for donating blood is that the donar should be fit and healthy. As you are having treatment for cancer i would not think that it would be advisable at present .You have been helping others in the past by doing voluntary work and now you need to look after yourself. When you are well again i am sure there is lots of ways you can still help others and lead a full filling life.Good luck with your treatment.|||It is not ok to donate because of the treatments you are having. Your blood counts are probably below normal, probably anemic. On that count alone you won%26#039;t be able to donate.|||Bless you for wanting to help, Arthur, but blood donation isn%26#039;t the way to do it. I had cancer and chemo (no radiation) and was told I couldn%26#039;t donate blood any more (ever) because of the cancer. It%26#039;s a tricky disease and you can never be positive there aren%26#039;t a few cancer cells in your blood.

Radiation is notorious for making you tired. I%26#039;m sure your doc is checking your blood regularly….white cells and red cells and such. There are meds you can try if they get too low. I used to drink the Ensure protein drinks every day to help with nutrition when I was too tired to cook.

I think this is a time when you can concentrate on yourself and getting better. The faster you get better, the faster you can get back to volunteering!|||The Red Cross used to call me all the time to donate because I am B+, which is rare. However, when I told them that I was being treated for breast cancer, they stopped calling. They told me 5-7 years before I can donate again. Cancer cells can pass through the blood.

I remember reading that priests, monks etc showed a higher incidence of prostate cancer due to abstinence but I have not been able to find it again.|||This is one of those times where it doesn%26#039;t pay to wait for all the evidence to be in. As long as ejaculation doesn%26#039;t hurt you, keep doing it in the hopes that it may prevent bad things.|||%26quot;Some investigators have suggested that sexual abstinence may contribute to prostate cancer risk, but there is no consistent evidence to support this contention despite multiple studies in the past 30 years%26quot;
