Best of luck.|||My Uncle had prostate cancer and he%26#039;s OK now, hope your dad gets better soon.|||My dad had it too. Lots of men do fine on traditional treatment.|||Absolutely. The survival rate is pretty good for this type. The earlier it was caught (Stage 1 is the earliest stage) the better his chances are of recovery. As long as the cancer is contained and not spread, it%26#039;ll be removed and he%26#039;ll be fine.

It is important to encourage fruits and vegetables but meat (beef and pork) are often not well-tolerated….fish and chicken are better. Soft or blended foods are better tolerated but lack interest. Liver is good but many patients dislike it. Stay away from spicy foods (garlic, hot peppers and onions) Juice or plain water is better than carbonated drinks but a bit of ginger ale breaks the monotomy. A simple food is a rice gruel, rice cooked with excess water…and seasoned with a bit of salt, black pepper and a thin slice of ginger and pieces of crab meat is well tolerated. Keep up vitamin intake.|||Prostate cancer is a malignant tumor that arises in the prostate gland. As with any cancer if it is advanced or left untreated in early stages, it can eventually spread through the blood and lymph fluid to other organs. Fortunately, prostate cancer tends to be slow growing compared to other cancers.

The exact cause is debatable, but here%26#039;s an interesting idea. I think a lot of prostate problems are caused by stagnation. You know how it is with the shut-off vlave under the sink; if you never use it by exercising it, turning it on and off every so often, eventually it will get encrusted and seize up so you cannot turn it. The same thing happens with your prostate… don%26#039;t use it and eventually it gets all sorts of problems.

Studies have suggested that men who masturbate at least 5 times a week when they are in their late teens and 20s have a far lower incidence of prostate problems later on, and this seems to indicate that getting rid of fluids produced there on a regular basis promotes prostate health. This is not at all good news for those who think that masturbating is bad. You%26#039;ve got to keep the plumbing clear, and the best way is to flush it out regularly.|||The exact cause of prostate cancer is not known, but experts believe that your age and family history (genetics) may have something to do with your chances of getting the disease. Eating a high-fat diet may add to your chances of getting it.2

The prostate usually gets larger as you age. Having an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH) is very common among older men and does not increase your chances of developing prostate cancer. However, an enlarged prostate is sometimes caused by prostate cancer instead of BPH.|||There is no sure cause, but its mainly a fact, if you don%26#039;t get it by ur 70-80%26#039;s. then ur a female|||There are some symptoms when cancer grows in the prostate gland and narrows the urethra. Symptoms then include:

problems urinating such as difficulty in starting to pass urine, a weak, sometimes intermittent flow of urine, dribbling of urine before and after urinating, a frequent or urgent need to pass urine or a need to get up several times in the night to urinate

a feeling that your bladder is not completely empty

pain when you orgasm

rarely, blood in the urine

Do you mean extra-prostatic extension? It means the tumor has formed on the surface of the prostate, and has formed a mass that%26#039;s still attached. EPE doesn%26#039;t necessarily mean that the cancer has spread beyond the prostate, but it does need prompt attention.|||Ill be honest, I didnt hear about that term before when I was going through it. I would call Ghost Busters.

According to some medical and health reports flaxseed oil will aggravate prostate cancer but it will not necessarily cause it.

The problem component in flaxseed oil is the omega 3 ALA and this omega 3 is also found in soy products and walnuts.

If you want the omega 3s DHA and EPA then you need fish oil. DHA has some brain benefits and DHA, EPA and ALA all have some heart benefits but EPA and ALA have no brain benefits so fish oil is much better for you than flaxseed oil.|||It probably will help heal it. cancer is caused from morbid food and the cells live on that. so to introduce live, raw food will counteract cancer.|||J Soc Integr Oncol. 2007 Summer;5(3):92-105.Links

Flax and flaxseed oil (Linum usitatissimum): a review by the natural standard research collaboration.

Basch E, Bent S, Collins J, Dacey C, Hammerness P, Harrison M, Smith M, Szapary P, Ulbricht C, Vora M, Weissner W.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, USA.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the scientific evidence on flaxseed, including expert opinion, folkloric precedent, history, pharmacology, kinetics/dynamics, interactions, adverse effects, toxicology, and dosing. Electronic searches were conducted in 9 databases, 20 additional journals (not indexed in common databases), and bibliographies from 50 selected secondary references. No restrictions were placed on the language or quality of the publications. All literature collected pertained to efficacy in humans, dosing, precautions, adverse effects, use in pregnancy/lactation, interactions, alteration of laboratory assays, and mechanisms of action. Standardized inclusion/exclusion criteria are used for selection. Grades were assigned using an evidence-based grading rationale. A review of the literature on flaxseed yielded 13 categories for which flaxseed had been studied in humans, including constipation/laxative, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis/coronary artery disease, breast cancer, cyclic mastalgia (breast pain), menopausal symptoms, hyperglycemia/diabetes, hypertension, lupus nephritis, human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), and prostate cancer. Most of the available evidence investigates the efficacy of alpha-linoleic acid found in flaxseed compared with fish oil, and almost all of the available studies are poor quality. Although flaxseed and flaxseed oil have several promising future uses, the available literature does not support recommendation for any condition at this time.

PMID: 17761128 [PubMed - in process]|||Take Fish oil instead.|||I have heard of the aggravation potential, though the studies were by no means overwhelmingly conclusive.

I agree with the above, use fish oil instead to get the same result if you are concerned about aggravating cancer, otherwise it is fine.

All men eventually will have their prostate enlarge. It is attributed mostly to the drop of testosterone that starts in the late twenties and through the thirties. Most men will then see a increase in the size of their prostate between 35 and 55. Since the prostate is close to the colon its suspected that diet may have a link to prostate cancer. I have read in some medical articles that all men have some level of cancerous cells in their prostate by the time they reach 65. Eventually, there can be a sudden dramatic increase of these cancerous cells… that is why there is a simple blood test that men can have and should have every year from age 50 on. This test can measure the level of these cancer cells and are a good indicator if there is a serious level of cancer cells present.|||a faulty gene.|||My guess would be anal sex. My grandpa has it and i don%26#039;t really know anything about it. like what do they do to treat it? or anything like that. All i know is that it%26#039;s not spreading. what could this possibly mean?|||The first thing to realize is that almost 100% of men over the age of 90 will have evidence of prostate cancer on autopsy. However, if you look at any source, you will see that prostate cancer is not the leading cause of death in men…why? Because most cases of prostate cancer are slow growing and people will die of other causes (heart attack, stroke, pneumonia) long before their prostate cancer is a problem. Your grandpa seems to be a good case in point- If the cancer is an %26quot;aggressive%26quot; cancer (the urologist would know this by the results of the biopsy when they diagnosed the cancer) a treatment might be considered. Bear in mind that all treatments have %26quot;side effects%26quot;, some that are worse that the cancer itself. If the cancer is slow growing (indolent) and especially if your grandfather has other medical problems (heart disease, stroke, dementia)…%26quot;watching%26quot; the cancer and witholding treatment for now may be the best idea…|||Prostate cancer is very common in older men. I do not know your grandfather%26#039;s situation but most prostate cancers are treatable. Commonly a slow growing cancer, it can be treated with chemo/rad therapy but because it is a slow growing cancer many men try alternative treatments by changing their diet (eating cranberries, blueberries and cutting down on fatty foods and sugars). Some also do more exercise.

I wish your grandfather well. If you have questions, it is alright to ask him. If he wants to talk about it, ask about what he wants to do and the best way you can support him.

This is also assuming that the testicles are producing sperm and all the other passageways for it are still effective. Best bet is to go to a sperm bank and give a sample to test the amount of sperm. If the ejaculation isn%26#039;t thick and milky, the prostate probably isn%26#039;t producing semen and this is absolutely necessary for the sperm to travel up the woman%26#039;s uterus and into the fallopian tube where fertilization occurs.
