My father had prostate cancer back in the mid 80%26#039;s, he had surgery and was pronouced cancer free. He is a very hateful and verbally abusive person and whenever he abuses one of us and has to be accountable for it he will say he went to the doctor and his PSA numbers are up and the cancer is back. My mother is a co-dependant enabler and agrees with him. However in the 20 + years since he hasn%26#039;t had any treatment or anything to prove that this is anything more than a form of manipulation. So, how should I handle this in the future, what should I say to him the next time I confront him on his actions and he says something like, %26quot;How can you do this to a dying man?%26quot;|||I understand your dilemma here. The minute you call his bluff you may be dealing with the little boy that cried wolf, and feel just awful IF he needs to start treatment or becomes deathly ill.
I say bring up this topic with his doctor or at least the doctor%26#039;s assistant. I am certain your father is not the only one that uses a previous ailment in such a manipulative manner. As well you do not want to let this sink in to his mind that he is sick and never getting better. Some times the mere thought can make us sick.
In short talk to his doctor%26#039;s office. They may not be able to tell you anything personal, but may be able to better inform you about what steps you need to take. As well they may want to speak to him about how he views the information they give to him.
May you and yours be blessed while still on this bumpy path.|||Let%26#039;s get your doctor on the phone right now…jeez, he sounds awful, sorry. Or, I wouldn%26#039;t want to regret not being open and honest with you after you%26#039;re dead, which apparently is any day now. It%26#039;s the most curable cancer for god%26#039;s sake!|||Don%26#039;t let him manipulate you. He knows he can and it%26#039;s up to you to stop it. Turn around and walk away from him. I know it%26#039;s not easy but you have to do it. He will realize that he does not have control over you any more and that will breakl the cycle. Good Luck!|||How awful for you and your family, your father sounds like a manipulative, self-involved jerk. Maybe the next time he tries to %26quot;play the cancer card%26quot; (approximately the oldest card ever used) you might want to proclaim your surprise and distress over his %26quot;dying%26quot; status, then ask him for more information. If he refuses to give you any, tell him you%26#039;re calling his doctor because apparently their treatment has not helped and he deserves better care. Or, just tell him everyone is slowly, but surely, dying and that such a commonplace occurance shouldn%26#039;t be enough to stop important conversations from going on.
And if I were you, I would detach from him as much as possible as you get older, because you shouldn%26#039;t have to deal with anyone as immature and verbally abusive as him.|||First why do you keep going back for this punishment. I had a mother who was bipolar and morbidly obese on top of that. She used all sorts of reasons to be abusive from being abused as a child to being raped when she got older.
I finally told her, you boyfriend molested me and i spent a year in court, got yanked from one school put in another, you tried to commit suicide all these times, you were in and out of crisis units, you were alcholic from your own admission, you were abusive, i had a boyfriend that beat me but i do not use any of these things to treat people as you do. I have health problems because of you. I do not use these things. Look mom, if you want to see me then quit acting this way. I will not put myself through this anymore. When i did this she quit. I am not saying it will work but being blunt and just up front is the best. Not letting him get away with it.
Now as for your mother i would tell her to quit making up excuses for him.
As for the dying perhaps you should point out that we are all dying. I had an aunt who had breast cancer it went into remissian (excuse spelling please) four times. Not once did it stop her from being a good person. Nor did she spend her whole life dwelling on this. There are lots of examples of this in the world. He chooses to make his life about dying. Don%26#039;t choose to make your life about it to.
You can choose to just stay away. You don%26#039;t have to expose yourself to it. I know he is your father but you have to look out for your emotional well being. It is not your burden to carry this cross forever. I have been there.|||Q: %26quot;How can you do this to a dying man?%26quot;
Possible answers:
We%26#039;re all dying, some just a little faster than others.
Personally, I think you%26#039;re faking cancer.
What, I should lie and tell you everything is fine so you go to your maker unrepentant and unprepared?
Only the good die young, I expect you to outlive me for that reason alone.
Promises, promises.
Well get on with it then, while Mom%26#039;s still young enough to fritter away your estate on affairs with younger men!
So, when was the last time you saw a doctor about that cancer, huh? Show me the tests you lying bastard.
Dad, you%26#039;ve been %26quot;dying%26quot; for 20 years. we don%26#039;t believe you any more.
%26quot;Dying of cancer%26quot; is not a %26quot;Get out of Jail Free%26quot; card.|||You can, that is something you need to pull away from, it will take lots of strength and courage because you are being verbally manipulated and it hurts. Call a psychologist and see if you can talk and work this out to find out how to get back up from this. Love for a family runs deep but so do the words they say, you need to be able to talk this out and find a way to get away from it. Most psychologists if you are under 18 will find a way to do it for free and the same if you go see one on campus if you are a college student. Good luck and i am sorry, i have been in a situation like this and i know how hard it is, but you can do it. Be strong.|||you%26#039;re obviously old enough to live separately from this sick man and his sick wife. you must not live with these people. also, there%26#039;s nothing wrong with disengaging with the both of them, either. i haven%26#039;t talked to my mother in almost a year, and i can%26#039;t believe i didn%26#039;t think to do it sooner, it%26#039;s been so good for me. like a haeavy cloud has lifted of my head, and my real life with people i can actually help has finally fully started now. i highly recommend it. don%26#039;t feel any guilt.|||One thing since you%26#039;re old enough to not live at home why do you keep subjecting your self to them?? You can tell them that until they are willing to take care of them selves you don%26#039;t deserve to be treated this way and you won%26#039;t stand for it any more. A person can%26#039;t be waked over unless they lay there and let someone walk on them. Stop laying there, you have a right not to be verbally abused so don%26#039;t%26#039; deal with it. If you must check on them than call that way you can end the conversation when it gets to the part where they start trying to manipulate you. But this is your choice only you can end it because they wont it%26#039;s worked for them why should they change?|||Simply by saying, the same way you can do this to your family? Tell him he has cried wolf too many times and you will not allow him to manipulate you anymore and then don’t let him do it. If you find yourself buying into it, ask for proof.
Has anyone got experience with intravenous vit C injections as a cure for cancer? A friend has prostate cancer and has just started this treatment. If it really is a cure, why aren%26#039;t the doctors perscribing this treatment?|||A simple cure is not something they want. - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since – more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.|||medicine..is a science that any individual doctor has his own opinion and experience…Vitamine..c i an anti oxidant..and prevents us from getting cancers..! if we have enough in daily diet!.,,,,so ..if it prevents free radicals…for cracking out cromosomes…to..it can cure the cancer by preventing more cells..get infected by the cancer..!…as you know..each cell has a limited life time…when it finishes..it dies..so ..you only have..an exact amount of cells..infected by the cancer…and you prevent more cells..to get infected..so..you should wait untill those carcinogenic cells..Die!..then the cancer is gone!..thats..like it!…but you have to know..that..cancer is a thousands head monster..and has many tricks!…but…this..way amongst others..is one hopefull way to cure cancer…but we are not actually.capable of saying that we have defeated cancer..today!..we have many problems..ye to be solved…!vitamine..c is..one new mehtod!…we hope..it would gain good results..!..so good comfort for innocent people.|||There is NO cure for cancer. You people need to stop promoting fraud and quackery.|||I have heard of some good results. It can take a long time and is not always successful. If he gives up on the Vitamin C, he can try this. It works very fast and is very cheap.

I have Prostate cancer spreading to Spine. I am on Calutide 50, 3 tablets a day.
One Nobel Laureate Doctor suggests that we take
Vitamin C 10Grams Mega dose to fight cancer.
Is it advisable to take such large dose?
Will it affect kidneys?

Get ahold of the Carmelites (located in Carmel California),,,they are a group of nuns. Their prayr%26#039;es for me heeled my polio (over night),,once upon a midnight clear in 1959. I%26#039;m sure they would pray for you too!
God Bless you and keep you well!|||Which Nobel Laureate suggested this by the way? I can see treating cancer with hyperdoses of C (or even better, the fruits that give C because they have more antioxidants), because it will help prevent metastasis and promote a healthy immune system, but that much C would affect the Kidneys. Though vitamin C is rather harmless in large amounts, your kidneys would still have to work overtime to keep the levels right. If you already have kidney problems, this wouldn%26#039;t be a good idea. If you have healthy kidneys it shouldn%26#039;t be too much of a stretch, just something to keep in mind for the rest of your overall healthy.
By the way, I%26#039;m not really an expert, I%26#039;m still a medical student, but I do know my stuff.|||very sorry to hear your not well..i have read a lot of vitamin C in the last few days…i hope these site prove a good read..and sincerely wish you a very speedy recovery…and never ever give up on yourself…fight be brave and visualize yourself well…|||Well, if you are talking about Linus Pauling you should know that despite taking Vitamin C for years both he and his wife died from cancer. It%26#039;s always ironic when the people who continually push and persuade others about questionable %26#039;cancer cure%26#039;s%26#039; wind up with the disease themselves. Vitamin C didn%26#039;t do anything for Pauling%26#039;s prostate cancer and he died just as his %26#039;patients%26#039; did . . with cancer.
Quackwatch: The Dark Side of Linus Pauling%26#039;s Legacy
http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRela…|||There is much controversy regarding the relationship between vitamin C intake and prostate cancer risk. Some studies show that increased levels of vitamin C reduce one%26#039;s risk for prostate cancer. Other studies show that vitamin C has no effect on this risk.
On the other hand, the relationship between vitamin C as a treatment for prostate cancer is quite surprising. Our group, while at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center found that prostate tumors consume large amounts of vitamin C. Dr. David Agus, the principal investigator of this study, emphasizes that %26quot;tumors appear to have nutritional needs, similar to other healthy cells, but take in larger amounts of this vitamin.%26quot; More research needs to be done to find out the exact role of vitamin C in prostate cancer treatment.
Dear Mr. Siva, It is not advisable to take suggestions from this form on line and you have to strictly take medications as per your Oncologist prescribes as he is the best judge on the spot to give you advice. Please consult and act accordingly and do not go on the informations available on net AS CANCER IS STILL AN ENIGMA and should be treated properly. Best of luck for a speedy recovery..|||If you would like an expert answer to this question I%26#039;d try emailing Cancerbackup nurses in the UK. Or if you%26#039;re their call them on 08088001234. He was awarded a PhD in physical chemistry and mathematical physics. He won his Nobel Prize in Chemistry for describing chemical bonds and a Nobel Prize for activism against nuclear weapons.
The medical community and most of the scientific community doubt the value of high dose vitamin C as a treatment for cancer.|||Linus Pauling lived to the young age of 93!!! I would discount cancer as the ultimate cause in his case in IMHO. If his belief in C sustained his life to 93..that%26#039;s good enough for me too!! LOL
my dad had lost alot of weight fairly quick had a loss of appetite the feeling of being full had a chest xray came back fine had a ultra sound of stomach fine had a catscan afull abdomen focused on kidneys and came back he ahs 2 small cysts on each kidney he was complaining of a lot of pain in his stomach and nausiousness dr put him on th eprevpac triple pac for 14 days stomach feels much better but he is very very tired and appetite is minimal he says its not there and they found he had a very fast herat beat he had a cbc with diff and came back fine he had a rectal all fine he had a prostate check fine they checked his thyroid through blood fine they did some blood test called metabolic something they checked for prostate cancer all good but he still has no appetite and tired and now he is a little hoarse and has a little runny nose no cough his coumadin level was high so they took him off for awhile and just put him back on does this sound like gastric cancer i hope not|||what a story.
He had quite some examinations, and most are ok. There are two reasons you mentioned that can cause fatigue, and that is a fast heartrate, and a too fast working thyroid.. But that doesn%26#039;t explain the nausea. I nowhere read in your story that he had a gastroscopy..If he didn%26#039;t I believe he should.
A gastric cancer is possible, but then his stool would be black (iron in bloodcells coming from cancer). Is that checked? Although it is unlikely because he takes coumadin, that would cause more serious bloodloss.
Most likely answer is a gastritis, but still not sure untill a gastroscopy is done.
So not ready yet…|||Cancer is diagnose only by biopsey. If he has cancer the primary MD would consult an oncologist.

Ladies, Would You Enjoy Seeing Your Dad, Sons, or Husband Dying From Cancer?
Breast cancer research gets 9 times the amount of donations that prostate cancer gets.
Yet, prostate cancer kills men on the same magnitude as breast cancer kills women.
Ladies, do you donate as well to protecting the men you supposedly love as you donate to protecting women?
Do you care about the men you supposedly love?
Did you tell your boy when he was a baby that you%26#039;ll be trying to protect his sister at his expense?|||So what are you looking for donation or something this is the wrong way of doing it my friend No One like to see anyone dye And if the do they are sick people and need help!! This question is wrong and in bad taste my friend so get a live and learn that people do have hearts!!!|||oh yes, the women who control congress and the white house and the courts have prevented funding prostrate cancer research.|||Regardless of what is spent on research, I make sure my son and husband are regularly checked. I also make sure my daughter is regularly checked for breast cancer. My job as a wife and mother is to be aware and teach my children also. The information is out there.
As far as Prostate cancer not getting the research and attention, well my husband and my son both would rather be horse whipped than have a doctor sticking his finger up their butt. This may be why it does not get the funding, most men will not get checked on a regular basis by their family doctor.
No matter what shots, medications, etc - my brother (who has gastric cancer and non-smal cell cancer of the lungs ) can not seem to get the blood platelet count high enough to continue chemo. All treatments are currently no-go until the count is high enough, but he had prostate cancer in 8 years ago and they weren%26#039;t very high then, and the high count the doctors want is not something that is within reach. What now? I am seeking answers or comfort or hope.|||I used to donate platelets many years ago.
Has he looked into a platelet transfusion?|||There is hope for bro, tell him to do the exercises below immediately.I will be able to advise further if required.

Cancer hates oxygen and cannot live in a high-oxygen environment. If you want to supplement the medical treatment you receive(or not receive) with some alternative therapy then this is for you. You need to help your body to build up your immune system. The breathing exercises - pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after four weeks at the suggested maximum duration you will start to notice benefits gradually.
What is known:Do the pranayam and reap the health benefit. How it works in the body is not known – but people may build their own theory.
The small print: Keep doing pranayam after you are better for minimum 30 minutes a day for rest of life to maintain health.
People who have been treated successfully, should do pranayam as well, as there is a chance of recurrence.
Monitor your conditions/results regularly and it will help you and others observe the progress.List existing conditions with any levels/numbers time spent on toilet seat,weight,BP,dental/eye/ear conditions including eye prescription numbers, sleep problems, blood results etc.
The pranayam techniques:
Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 5 minutes.
Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for upto 30 minutes twice a day.(Max 60 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Anulom Vilom - Deep Breath-in through left nostril keeping right nostril closed
then - Breath-out through right nostril keeping left nostril closed
then -Deep Breath-in through right nostril keeping left nostril closed
then - Breath-out through left nostril keeping right nostril closed
and repeat this cycle for upto 30 minutes twice a day(maximum 60 min/day).
Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 10 times
Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to improve your technique and stay focused. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life, unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.
Why is it that so many people make such a big deal about breast cancer awareness? there are so many other diseases out there that people can talk about, why isn%26#039;t there prostate cancer awareness month. I think it is all annoying and WAY over done, why make something out to be worse than it is and put to much emphasis on it. Stop all this annoying pink ribbon crap.. it%26#039;s on EVERYTHING I%26#039;m about to stop buying anything that remotely supports it cause it%26#039;s too over done, I%26#039;m to that point, is anyone else with me on this???|||i agree with you . im sick of watching discovery health with annouing people saying how they defeated cancer. wowooo your a real survivor NO ONE CARES you rase a good point. what about autisim, and spinal cord injury patients THEY dont get a month|||Breast cancer effects young females not only the old ones. Prostate cancer mainly kills old guys. There%26#039;s also a cosmetic awareness that comes with having your breast removed. It%26#039;s more difficult see that aftermath of having your prostate removed. Also all males will have prostate cancer if they live long enough.|||Do you have womans breast? If yours is a prostate do your own thing. You just dont know how devastating it is for us women. We have to bond together and help each other. We wont complain if there is a prostate awareness month because we would understand.|||There is a prostate cancer awareness month…and the ribbons are blue.
But I%26#039;m kinda sick of all the pink ribbon marketing myself.|||because this is the month for it, other diseases get other months., and it wont be %26#039;done%26#039; until there is a cure, you dont like it dont support it.|||I totally agree! It%26#039;s because October is breast cancer propaganda month, aka: pinkwashing. Check out the follow article: http://www.newstarget.com/022115.html
P.S. I was wearing my pink hat long before October..lol!|||why are you such a big deal?..don%26#039;t like it then ingore it… I%26#039;m support breast cancer which is no big deal either!… by the way it not pink crap!…..|||So why don%26#039;t you start a prostate cancer Awareness month? Oh no wait, that would require that you actually care. I am sure you are annoyed about anything for a good cause. Well it is not all about you. Do you Realize what a killer Breast cancer is and that Men can also get it? Has anyone you ever cared about had Cancer of any kind? Well My daughter has Cancer so you are barking up the wrong tree…No it is not Breast Cancer, but that does not lessen the passion I have for fighting Cancer. Any kind. I hope you never experience anything like that because I don%26#039;t think you can handle it.|||No, everyone else is NOT with you. Young females die from this, not jsut the old! Sorry, you don%26#039;t care.
As SOON as your dying from Prostate Cancer, I%26#039;m going to ask you, %26quot;OMG! What%26#039;s all this annoying blue ribbon crap? It%26#039;s too much!%26quot;
Have some care, dude .. And get a life if you are making a huge enough deal to ask a question about it.|||Breast cancer is high profile right now because it%26#039;s October which has been designated breast cancer awareness month. Now I have had breast cancer and I hate and dread BCAM, or Pink October as the more cynical of us call it.
Take a look at all that pink stuff for sale, and check the label or ask the retailer: what percentage of the sale price is going to breast cancer charities. Usually around 1% . Support for a deadly disease that kills on average more than 1,000 women a month in the UK alone has been turned into a marketing opportunity.
The pink fluffy stuff infuriates me, and I%26#039;m not at all %26#039;tickled pink%26#039; by Asda%26#039;s (Walmart%26#039;s) trivialisation of an illness that may yet kill me. October magazines carry stories from cheerful survivors who claim to have the all-clear (there is no all-clear with breast cancer), and often say bc has changed their lives for the better - very different from anybody I know who%26#039;s had breast cancer.
And here I come to one of your other points - you say why make something out to be worse than it is? - very far from doing that, Pink October , as I%26#039;ve said. trivialises a deadly disease, leading people to believe, as you apparently do, that breast cancer is
a) not very serious, certainly not as serious as many other cancers (many women with breast cancer have been told - by people who don%26#039;t have it - that it%26#039;s a %26#039;good%26#039; cancer to get) and
b) curable. (my neighbour said to me %26#039;they%26#039;ve just about got breast cancer licked, haven%26#039;t they?%26#039; Really? Why are they still cutting women%26#039;s breasts off then?)
I%26#039;ve even heard it said that it%26#039;s a %26#039;sexy%26#039; cancer - my sexy prosthesis and sexy one-breasted body are evidence that it%26#039;s no such thing.
Yes, other cancers need more awareness, and while I hate %26#039;competitive illness%26#039; I can see why there is some resentment about an imbalance in awareness raising and fund raising.
But breast cancer awareness month started as a campaign to raise awareness so that people knew the symptoms, examined themselves regularly, attended their routine mammograms etc. Enthusiastic participation by women made it grow into something nationally recognised and then big business cashed in.
As someone%26#039;s pointed out, there is a prostate cancer awareness campaign and a ribbon, but I think men are less open and less willing to talk about their health and well, their prostates, which is unfortunate.
So yes, Pink October is awful, and other cancers need awareness campaigns (many have them but they don%26#039;t receive so much support - or have as much work put into them). But don%26#039;t lose sight of the fact that breast cancer is a killer disease with disfiguring surgery, grueling treatments and so far no cure. Just because the pink thing trivialises it doesn%26#039;t mean it%26#039;s trivial.|||Obviously you have had nobody close to you die from cancer?? Yes there is alot of awareness about breast cancer but that is because 1 in 3 women get it!!! Pretty high statistics, and it also affects women very young. The more research into cancer the better, if they can determine what causes it or find a new treatment it will also help all other areas in cancer. My Mum died in sept this year after a 4 month battle with kidney cancer that spread to her liver and lung. So stop your arrogance, it ISNT made to be worse than it is, cancer is a horrific disease and watching your loved one died a painful death is shocking. Breast cancer or any cancer research i support 100%|||hey yo.. dont talk as if ur invincible and dont give a **** to other ppls misery or shortcomings in life… dont be too arrogant….
so far nobodys aske a penny off u, n its not wanted anyway…
its ok to ignore but saying whats the bid deal to victims and potential victims and those who lost loved ones?????
who are u to tell the world?
who are u to tell us?
who are u to tell those cancer victims?
who are u to tell those forever with scarred pride and body?
maybe the tables will turn as the world is round…. who knows
then u can walk the talk……..
we will still give support….|||Dear Sir,
Why you and some of the friends here are against Breast cancer? You must know about Breast cancer statistics and I think then you will agree with the awareness campaign. Prostrate or any other cancer is not much and In US Breast cancer is the second most killer disease, therefore the Govt. is taking action to fight it. There is nothing wrong in it and if you do not like please do not criticize. I am a voluntary worker for all cancer patients and this month I am involved in spreading awareness of Breast cancer. You can see it from my avatar. Now, see the statistics, it is blogged in Yahoo-360 by me -
Breast cancer is a major health problem in the United States and other countries around the world. Each year over 200,000 thousand women are diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States and over 40,000 women die from this disease every year. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer death in American women. If we take the younger age group of women in the range of 40 to 55 years, breast cancer is the leading cause among all causes of death. Breast cancer is uncommon among men; with about 1450 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed every year. An estimated 470 males die from breast cancer every year. As per the recent available data the death rates from breast cancer among woman of all ages have declined in the United States by 2.8% every year from 1990 to 2000. The declining death rate may be attributed to the successful screening programs and advances in the treatment of breast cancer.
Risk of development of breast cancer varies among different ethnic groups in the United States. Caucasian women in the United States have about 13.1% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. African American women have slightly decreased risk of development of breast cancer and the lifetime risk of breast cancer among this subpopulation is about 9.6 (Data from SEER). Even though African American women have lower incidence of breast cancer the mortality rate is approximately 28 percent higher in African American women compared to white women.
There has been increasing incidence of earlier forms of breast cancer in the United States. The incidence of the earliest form of breast cancer has increased by about 130 percent over the last few years. It is reasonable to assume that the increased incidence of earlier forms of breast cancer is the direct result of successful screening program. Let us spread awareness of this disease.
Thank you. -|||You sure got sh*t started! Obviously you don%26#039;t have a loved one who has breast cancer. As I write this now my mom is in the hospital and she has liver and bone cancer that did metasis from BREAST CANCER! I write it clearly and bold since it annoys you so much. So, sad and disgusted by your questions and some of those who answered what they answered. Shame on you the day you get breast cancer (which by the way man can get breast cancer!) I hope no one has pitty for you since you have no pitty for those who are diagnosed with this deadly disease. If it bothers you so much lock your damn self in your house for the month of October and dont step out. I feel no pitty for you!! Sorry for all of those who are upset that certain disease don%26#039;t have a month of awareness if it BOTHERS you so much start organization and put awareness on it and stop complaining like a 5 yr old on yahoo answers! =) smile!!!
I am in this to help anyone who is sick and donate money to whom any organization I can but, I will not stop supporting Breast Cancer for NOTHING in this world!
My dad has cancer. He has just finished his first six weeks of chemotherapy for prostate cancer and the size of his lymph nodes have decreased BUT it is still affected..he now has lymphoma and he has to have another scan in 6 weeks to decide if he should have a second round of chemotherapy OR to have some operation to remove his lymph node in the affected area. I was just wondering if anyone out there was in such a situation and how you progressed in what choice you made and how you are today (either finished or going through a treatment).
Thank you for reading and for any suggestions.

Hope|||Oh my word that%26#039;s awful. Sorry that I can%26#039;t make any suggestions but I%26#039;ll send up a prayer for you :)|||Go to Hutchinson Cancer center in Seattle. They are the best for getting rid of lymphoma/leukemia type cancers.
I wish your father all the best in fighting this!|||not me or my family but my friends father had to do the same it was hard but he is doing fine/just talk to him on sat good luck and hope your dad feels better|||Lymphoma
Lymphoma is a cancer of a part of the immune system called the lymphatic system. There are many types of lymphoma. One type is called Hodgkin%26#039;s disease. The rest are called non-Hodgkin%26#039;s lymphoma.
Non-Hodgkin%26#039;s lymphomas begin when a type of white blood cell, called a T cell or B cell, becomes abnormal. The cell divides again and again, making more and more abnormal cells. These abnormal cells can spread to almost any other part of the body. Most of the time, doctors can%26#039;t determine why a person gets non-Hodgkin%26#039;s lymphoma.
Non-Hodgkin%26#039;s lymphoma can cause many symptoms, such as
Swollen, painless lymph nodes in the neck, armpits or groin
Unexplained weight loss
Fever
Soaking night sweats
Coughing, trouble breathing or chest pain
Weakness and tiredness that don%26#039;t go away
Pain, swelling or a feeling of fullness in the abdomen
Your doctor will perform an exam and lab tests to determine if you have lymphoma.
I just read several articles about cancer deaths and found that far more men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer. Also, men are much more likely to get this cancer than women get breast cancer.
Everywhere we look (on TV, radio, bumper stickers) we see pink.
Even with all the hubbub about tobacco causing deaths, we don%26#039;t spend nearly as much money on lung cancer research etc.
Why is there such a disparity?|||All cancer deserves equal funding. It is an absolute horror no matter what age, stage or grade or type of cancer you have. A horror. I cannot in good conscience try to pick out one cancer that should receive more attention and more funding than another, including breast cancer. I am glad that they have the support and organization to lead the fight against their cancer.
On the other hand, I have a child with a rare cancer. There is always a sinking feeling in my gut because children and young people with his disease are dying. Pretty much all of them . . and it is a rotten, rotten cancer that robs these young people of life. Their bellies fill up with multiple huge tumors that become so heavy they can no longer stand up. I cannot even convey how misearable this disease is. It is so difficult when the little ones, the five to ten year old children have this cancer. I know that there are other diseases out there that deserve funding and research, but my heart aches for the young people suffering from abdominal sarcoma. There are no pink ribbons for them. There are no advocates for them. They are invisible in our society. They die slowly and painfully and out of the way so that no one notices. And, it%26#039;s nobody%26#039;s fault.
But, back to the question, the reason for the disparity is simply . . large numbers of people, survivors, and a good solid organization dedicated to education and advocating for funds to stop breast cancer. Rare cancers do not have the organization because they don%26#039;t have the numbers of people needed for a campaign and truthfully, few survivors are left to advocate for their disease.
And, although the medical community is intrigued by this rare cancer, currently funding is limited for cancers that could save so few people, and there is no active research taking place. People with rare cancer at the moment . . are expendable. They are the part of the statistics rattled off casually.
But what can you do? There is little we can do about it. So, we just do the best that we can and always stay focused and hopeful. And, yeah, we support research for all cancer.
Maybe someday I%26#039;ll have the energy to do more. But, for now, I do what I can by doing research and have created a patient database searching for treatments that may benefit them all.|||I%26#039;M REALLY NOT SURE, BUT THE WAY I SEE IT IS..IF YOU GET CANCER FROM TOBACCO IT WAS A CHOICE.BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE CHOICE OF SMOKING OR NOT! BUT YOU DON%26#039;T CHOOSE BREAST CANCER|||Because we%26#039;re closer to finding a cure to breast cancer than we are to a lot of other cancers.|||Breast cancer is a very %26quot;popular%26quot; cancer, and it receives a lot of public attention because it can destroy one of the most visibly %26quot;important%26quot; parts of a woman%26#039;s body.|||yeah, I don%26#039;t really feel sorry for a smoker with lung cancer. And what can I say, men love the (.)(.)s. Maybe that is why we spend so much more on breast cancer research.
Seriously, fewer women die of breast cancer BECAUSE we have put forth so much effort in fighting it, not the other way around. Perhaps we should up the research we do on prostate cancer as well.
Send me a brown ribbon……|||I dont know. But dont I think a difference in publicity in this case means a difference in research funds. Not all the money in research comes from such campains. If you look at the actual funds, even for academic research, most of it (the biggest amounts, which are actually an investment) comes from pharmas. If there are a lot of people suffering from it, pharmas will definetely invest. The more people, the more money they get. Remember, those companies are in stock markets, in which retirement funds are invested…
You wouldn%26#039;t like them to make bad investments, would you ?|||While all cancer is obviously a terrible thing, most people don%26#039;t realize how %26quot;ordinary%26quot; it is: about 1 in four of us will develop some form of cancer in our lifetime. Prostate cancer generally strikes older men, and though sometimes very serious, the men who have it often die of something else age-related first. Breast cancer strikes women of all ages.
Breast cancer has also become one of the more %26quot;manageable%26quot; cancers over the last few years. I know this sounds like a cold, hard choice, but who would you rather save, if you had to choose; a 25-year-old mother of two babies, or a 74-year-old grandfather who has lived a rich, full life?
Lung cancer from tobacco products is a lifestyle choice! *
(Yes, I know that not all lung cancer is a consequence of tobacco use, but an awful lot of it is. )|||Please advise where you have read such articles. Also, brown ribbons are already available and several parties already display them. I would suggest checking out the National Cancer Institues website to get a better grasp on what the statistics show regarding these two cancers. I am not sure if you are aware, but breast cancer can effect women at a very young age. Girls as young as 13 years old have been known to have this terrible diease. Also, if you check out the staticstics on the National Cancer institutes website you will find that 80% of the men who are diagnoised with Prostate cancer are over the age of 65. Also, check the American Cancer Society statictic and compare. Here is the info I found, and I would consider them a viable source of information:
212,920 women will be diagnoised with breast cancer this year, 40,970 will die.
234,460 men will be diagnoised with prostate cancer this year, and 27350 will die.
Note that the diagnoises rate for breast cancer does not include the men that will also be diagnoised.
So if you go by these numbers more women will die this year of breast cancer then men dying of protate cancer.
I guess what I am trying to say is that both dieases are terrible. I doubt you will find anyone that would argue that. All cancer is terrible. But if you want reliable numbers, check reliable sources. The National Cancer Insitute has access to SEER which really has more statistics then either you or I would ever need, however, if you are a numbers person like me, you will love it.
One other item to think of is that there are organizations that have dumped millions if not billions of $$ into education about breast cancer such as the Komen Foundation. Yes, the use of the pink ribbon can be overwhelming, not to mention if a company gives a whopping 1% of their profit to research.
Also, I am sure that in one way or another you are being affected by prostate cancer and my thoughts are with you. Best of luck on getting that brown ribbon out there! ![]()
